Olduvai Gorge

Oldupai Gorge

Dear friends,

today we want to give you some information about one of our destinations.

Olduvai Gorge is one of the most important and interesting archaeological sites in the world – the “cradle of mankind”.
It is a steep-sided ravine in the Great Rift Valley and you will find it in the eastern Serengeti plains in Arusha region, northern Tanzania.

Its length is about 48km.
The finds which Louis and Mary Leakey found there convinced most paleoanthropologists that humans originally evolved in Africa.
Researchers focused on stone tools, bones and rock art paintings.

Tourists can visit this fascinating location for example on their way to Ngorongoro or Serengeti.
