Binoculars can be confusing and I recommend you talk with a knowledgeable person to help select the right one for you.  We think they’re important on wildlife trips and add to the experience considerably.  Prices range considerably and this is worth some time to match the equipment with your needs and pocketbook. Early in our travels Bev and I tried sharing a single pair, but found we both missed too much.  Now we have our own and while I use the camera more than the binoculars I still find them useful.

Binoculars are essentially two telescopes placed side by side. The large lens at the end is the collection objective and focuses the image while collecting the light (larger = better in poor lighting situations).  There is a prism system housed inside the body of the binocular that flips the image so it will be right…

Pangani – An Insider Tip For Beach Lovers

Dear friends,

you want to relax on a dream beach in Tanzania?
Of course your first thought is Zanzibar. But did you know that there are some great alternatives?

For example Pangani – a town in the north east of Tanzania.
It is 50 km from Tanga, 385 km from Dar es Salaam and 470 km from Arusha.

Several historical sites in and around the town remind on the strong Arabic influence and also the German and British colonial time. Nowadays it is mainly a fishing town with lots of coconut trees, providing beautiful beaches for a great beach vacation.

By the way – the Pangani River flows from the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro! You can enjoy a little boat safari on the river to see crocodiles and different bird species. A walk to the Pangani Waterfalls is also very refreshing.
If you are interested in safari, the Saadani National Park is very close.

Unlike Zanzibar, Pangani is less visited by tourists so you can enjoy the silence there.
The white sand beaches are clean and the local people very friendly. There are some small lodges around, also some which are specialized in Eco accommodation.

If you wish we can book your Pangani holiday for you. It is also accessible via air.

Underwater Room, Pemba Island | Africa

Wow check out this spectacular resort on Pemba!

By the way, Pemba and Mafia are great alternatives to Zanzibar. Dream beaches, white sand, a lot of relaxation.

Pemba is also known as “the green island” and is 988 square kilometers big.
It is hillier than Zanzibar and there are less tourists.
Chake-Chake is the capital, but the largest city on the island is Wete.

A great destination for divers!
